Today, I wanted to use MindManager in this VM and needed the “Insert” key. Suddenly, I realized that the MacBook does not have such a key! (In fact, I never missed it until today!).
As a rescue, I found the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools on the Microsoft.com Website. This toolkit contains a tool called “remapkey.exe” which allows to edit your keyboard – you can simply drag and drop your keys around, quite nice. So, I dragged the “Insert” key to the “F12″ key, and I was done.
Prior to that, I disabled the Dashboard shortcut which was assigned to the F12 key on the Mac. You can do this in System Settings, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts.

Thank you very much. Exactly the same problem (Mindmanager as well). I also use Parallels and it works.
Thanks again.
Neil
thanks again – same exact problem, you had the perfect answer!
FN + M on the macbook
You have my thanks as well!
On a full-size Mac keyboard, the “Help” key will function as the “Insert” key in Windows. The Help key is below F14, above the cursor arrows, and between the numeric keypad and the main alphanumeric section of the keyboard.
On a MacBook or MacBook Pro, it is the Function key (Fn) plus the letter ‘M’,, according to this document:

Someone using the Maya 3D modeling program discovered that the “Home” key (right next to “Help”) was the Mac equivalent of the PC Insert key.
Hope this helps someone.
Thanks for useful information!
While some discuss the Mac versus Windows keyboard layout here a another small solution…
I use VMware (virtual Windows environment) and Mindmanager (as many have mentioned before). By luck I tried the: fn + ctrl + Enter and it inserts a new sub-topic in Mindmanager. This might help some people using Mindmanager… dont if it works on other apps…

On Apple aluminium keyboard for Insert press 0 on numerical keypad
I could not get the combinations above to work. I used FN + Enter in MindManager Pro 7 on a MacBook to get the insert.
I am running VISTA with Parallels. The Fn + Enter key worked as an insert key in MindManager Pro 7 for Windows.
